Keys to making sure you have a proper fit
for your child's safety:

• Not too small, not too big. If you can't buckle the jacket, it's too small. If the PFD rides up over child head, it's too big.
• Should be snug, but comfortable. Test fit by gently picking up your child by the life jacket. If the personal flotation device (PFD) doesn't ride up over the ears, it's a good fit.
• Use United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved jackets only; check the label inside for approval. Children's jackets come in three sizes:
  
  
  Infant - Under 30 pounds
  Child - 30 – 50 pounds
  Youth - 50 – 90 pounds
  
  
  Adult jackets are for those over 90 pounds. DO NOT buy an adult jacket hoping that your child will grow into it!
• One of the best life jacket practices for children is to set a good example by wearing a USCG approved PFD yourself.
