Bird Watching

My dad always taught me to read the color of the water to judge depth, but one other trick he showed me was to watch for groups of birds on the water.  They usually swim and fish where there are mounds or shallow spots.  If you spot a group of birds swimming in a small group isolated from land, chances are you're passing a little underwater hill.  It could be dangerous, or it could be a good place to fish.  Birds are not dumb.
