Grady-White Fanatics—The Reedys of Maryland: A Four-Generation Grady Family

If you’ve followed our owners’ club news over the years, you may recall reading about Chesapeake Bay Grady-White Club events like their Grady Palooza annual gathering–oftentimes through photos shared by Margie and Gary Reedy. The Reedy family’s “Grady bug” started with Gary’s parents, Bill and June Reedy, and their 1988 Seafarer 22. Bill passed away in 2010, and that first family Grady is now owned by his grandson Nick Reedy and Nick’s wife, Katie.

Margie and Gary themselves have owned a Marlin 300, on which Nick and Katie headed off from their wedding reception in Grasonville, MD. Fast forward ten-plus years, and there are three little granddaughters. And, Margie and Gary now own a 2008 Express 330

That’s not all. Nick’s brother, Tim Reedy, has a 1996 Strike 247, aboard which he and then fiancée Amy Barnhouse announced their wedding date of June 25, 2016.

“Little did I know that by responding to a link about our Grady club on a web site, I would find a group of people who would become almost like a family to us,” wrote Gary. “We feel very privileged to have made such great friendships through the Grady-White club. My Dad got me started with Grady-White boats. Now my boys each own one. My Dad used to joke and say, ‘I started these boys and they all have bigger boats than me!’”

Grady-White Boats was founded in 1959 and builds offshore outboard boats at its manufacturing plant in Greenville, NC. The company has been under continuous private ownership by NMMA Hall of Fame member Eddie Smith and the Smith family since 1968. Grady-White welcomes visitors to the company’s award-winning factory to see first-hand the process the company uses to create the very best family-and-fishing boats, and to meet the dedicated team that builds them.
